About the Artist
Born to recently-arrived Dutch parents in the 1950’s, family commitments curtailed Liz’s early painting activities. However, from an early age, the beauty of the human form, and the face as a visual representation of the essence of a person, has inspired Liz.
Liz began pursuing her interest in art seriously twelve years ago after joining a sketching class run by Jacqui Long at the Peninsula Arts Society.
Tutelage under Catherine Hamilton ignited Liz’s passion for the pastel medium and more recently her love of painting with oils has further developed under Bill Caldwell and influential tutor and mentor, Fiona Bilbrough.
Liz enjoys attending a number of different local life drawing and portraiture groups and some of her influences include John Singer Sargent, Joaquin Sorolla and Richard Schmid.
In 2024, Liz joined The Portrait Team at Possum Portraits, an Australian charity striving to help alleviate the pain and loss felt by bereaved parents. More information about this beautiful charity can be found on their website.
